Description A disorder characterized by unusually early development of secondary sexual features; the onset of sexual maturation begins usually before age 8 for girls and before age 9 for boys. [CTCAE] Development of SEXUAL MATURATION in boys and girls at a chronological age that is 2.5 standard deviations below the mean age at onset of PUBERTY in the population. This early maturation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis results in sexual precocity, elevated serum levels of GONADOTROPINS and GONADAL STEROID HORMONES such as ESTRADIOL and TESTOSTERONE. | An autosomal dominant hereditary disorder that is characterized by gonadotropin-dependent precocious puberty due to early activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. A mutation in the KISS1R gene has been identified. OMIM: 176400 | Familial precocious puberty in boys usually presents by age 4 with rapid VIRILIZATION and is also characterized by gonadotropin-independent testosterone secretion, low secretion of LUTEINIZING HORMONE, and advanced SPERMATOGENESIS in the testis. Mutations in the LHCGR gene have been identified. OMIM: 176410 [MeSH]
